(Following is an update of the 2008 McCall Winter Carnival, to be held Jan. 25 to Feb. 3, 2008).
The 2008 McCall Winter Carnival Committee is asking the community for volunteers to chair some of this year's events.
"We'd like to extend a thank you to everyone that has already signed up as a chairman and would also like to ask the rest of our community to consider getting involved," said Jesse Murphy, Winter Carnival Committee chairman.
Perhaps the biggest event of the carnival, The Mardi Gras Parade on Jan. 26, still needs a chair, as well as the Children's Neon Light Parade on opening night, Jan. 25.
In addition, this year's committee has added a merchandising chair to manage the merchandise booth where new and enhanced Winter Carnival gear will be sold.
The committee has also added afloat chair as a response to the community's expression of an interest in having bigger and more detailed floats in the parade.
The chair position for the children's activities is also available to plan all of the activities for the child play area, such as sledding and operating the snack shack.
Sponsorship and vendor opportunities are also still available. Contact Murphy at Jesse@infuzemarketing.com or (208) 866-6085. Information on the McCall Winter Carnival is available at www.mccallwintercarnival.com.
Carnival committee to connect businesses with sculptors Business owners can have a snow sculpture in front of their business during the 2008 McCall Winter Carnival without getting their hands cold.
The McCall Winter Carnival Committee will contract a snow sculptor to create a unique sculpture within a budget that follows this year's theme of "Wild, Wild West."
"McCall residents expressed their wish to see more snow sculptures around town during the Winter Carnival to make it more reminiscent of years ago when there were twice as many sculptures as there have been in recent years," said Tamara Sandmeyer, executive director of the sponsoring McCall Chamber of Commerce.
"The Winter Carnival Committee has responded to these requests by setting up an opportunity that will take all the work out of their hands yet still allow residents and businesses to benefit from having their own sculpture," Sandmeyer said.
